Consejos De Farez is a collaboration between Mark Mailler (visual artist) and Ivey Wawn (dancer/choreographer) who are cousins. Using the notion of excavation, as an act that physically uncovers history, we dig into our family tree to develop an understanding of identity construction as an exercise of fiction just as much as fact. We look at trade routes that co-evolved with migration lines of our ancestors to try and build a bigger geopolitical narrative around our incomplete family history. Intertwined with themes of migration, erasure, intergenerational repetition and wilful forgetting, Consejos de Farez (advice from Farez) works with mythical actions, virtual visitations, movement, objects and story telling to shine light on the relative plasticity of migrant identity.
