A Dream of a Cave as a Portal to a World

In the dark cavern of the body a disaster is playing out. A dreamlike sequence has twisted the insides of the body outward, a wound that won’t heal gapes open, the threshold between body and world is no longer intact. In this performance-installation seven dancers inhabit a space; a cave. This dark sanctuary is an evolving place for making sense of ecological horror. Sensations of loss, guilt and longing infect the bodies and space. Together the ensemble generates a choreographic exquisite corpse that accumulates limbs, organs, fears and pleasures, growing larger from one day to the next.

A Dream of a Cave as a Portal to a World (DCPW) is a new work in development by choreographers Ivey Wawn and Rhiannon Newton supported by the Art Gallery of NSW and Performance Space. It was instigated through the Performance Lab at AGNSW as a part of Liveworks 2023 and was supported by a Critical Path Space Grant in 2024.
